If There Was One Piece Of Advice I Would Give You, This Would Be It

Once in awhile a piece of advice comes along that you could apply to any given situation in your life. One that you can tuck away for a rainy day and it never loses its touch. Luckily for you, I happen to be the bearer of said advice. I knew it was magic when I discovered it for myself, but I have been blown away by how many of my friends and clients have appreciated its simplicity and poignancy as well.

Have I hyped it up enough yet?

Before I share it, I want you to take a journey with me to a time in your life when you could actually feel the stress and pressure of standing at a crossroads. Maybe you’re standing at one right now. For me, it was early Spring 2016 and I had already been dealt blow after blow of tough news. On top of that, the company I was working for had just hired a new CEO. Suffice to say, she didn’t love me. I knew for certain that she was trying to push me out leading up to my maternity leave. Practically everything that was once a pillar in my life was seemingly being taken away from me.

I could have tried to stay and attempted to meet her insane demands. I could have dealt with her attitude and hostility for the sake of remaining in a job, company, and field that I loved with all my heart.

But, I didn’t. Someone, somewhere, from the heavens above let me know exactly what I needed to do and forcing a square peg into a round hole wasn’t it.

“Go with the tide, not against it,” the Universe said.

Suddenly, I got it. When I took a step back I could see it all so clearly. The company that hired me was no longer the company that I worked for. The culture, employees, and perks that I enjoyed so much had all evolved and it was time for me to as well.

Sometimes in life we become complacent or paralyzed in a situation that at one time served us. We continue to chase the highs that we once knew. We hope that those highs will last forever, but the only constant we have in life is that everything changes and nothing is permanent. But that’s OK, because we are changing too.

In order for you to shift, evolve, and meet the next best version of yourself, you must allow yourself to. Know that the Universe is here to guide you through that portal. As confused, angry, or frustrated that you may feel about your own story or current crossroads, have solace in knowing that the tide your on is bringing you to a sea with even more possibility. Go with the tide, not against it.

Feel good.

xx,

J.
